Thank you for being a member of the JuicePoints community and contributing to a cleaner and cheaper grid.
It’s August in California, and high summertime electricity consumption means that the electric grid can be quite congested and some days electricity prices are elevated in the wholesale market (where your electricity provider pays for your electricity every minute of the day). When wholesale electricity prices are higher, all Californians pay more because electricity providers ultimately pass these costs onto the customers.
As part of JuicePoints, when the electric grid asks for help, Enel X times your EV charging to periods of the night with the lowest electricity prices, which also happens to be when the grid is cleaner. As a result, you can expect that your charging will be delayed until later in the evening most days in August—even past midnight. When this is occurring, you will see “Smart Charging Event Underway” on your mobile app and JuiceNet dashboard. Of course, you can always override any smart charging event by tapping “Charge Now” on your mobile app, but you will not receive JuicePoints for that particular charging session. If you are planning a big road trip right after your battery is nearly drained, that might be a good time to “Charge Now”. Don’t worry, the rest of the JuicePoints community is doing their part to reduce costs, emissions and congestion on those power lines!
