Why Does The EV JuiceNet App Show Different Mileage Than My Car?

Once your charge is complete, you can check to see how many miles of range were added to your vehicle on your EV JuiceNet App or on the car itself. You might notice that the number of miles that the EV JuiceNet app reports are slightly different than the range your car reports?

 

Why?

The range your car reports is an estimate of how far you can drive in the vehicles current state; your car takes many different factors into consideration when calculating this number. A few of these factors are outside temperature, battery temperature, the last 5 miles driven, and if the AC is on or off. For example, if you turn off your A/C, you may notice the range will increase by a few miles. If you turn on your A/C to maximum, the range may decrease by a few miles.

 

How can I accurately tell if my vehicle is fully charged?

The most consistent way to check if your vehicle received a full charge is by checking the SOC (State of Charge) in the dashboard of your vehicle. If the number is 100%, then your car is fully charged and ready to go. 

 

Is there anything I can do?

The J1772 charging handle specification for the EV manufacturer does not require extraneous data to be shared between the car and the charging station. The two devices only share the amount of information needed for the car and the vehicle to communicate so that a safe charge is provided to the vehicle when requested.

You can always set the level of charge that your vehicle has on the EV JuiceNet app before you begin your charging session, but keep in mind that the JuiceBox uses some of the electricity provided during charging to help with the battery thermal management, and as such is rated to 92% efficiency. This means that you should adjust the starting % to be slightly lower than what the car says to account for the extra electricity needed to reach the 100%.  If for some reason the app reports 100%, but the car shows less, then you would need to adjust lower to begin with.
